LINQ stands for Language Integrated Query.  LINQ is a data querying methodology which provides querying capabilities to .Net languages with syntax similar to SQL query. LINQ has a set of querying operators that can be used to query in memory object collection, Sql database, XML, etc. LINQ processing engine will then convert the LINQ query to native query specific to the database to execute against the datasource. 

Since, the querying feature is integrated with the language; one can build an efficient query based on the language of their choice.  With Visual Studio, we have intellisense support and with language support, we have type safety and compile-time error checks.

LINQ was released with .Netframework 3.5. Microsoft also released LINQ to SQL, LINQ to Entities which is the Microsoft answer to ORM(Object Relation Mapper) framework for connecting to database. These frameworks use LINQ as the basic querying language. LINQ will also work seamlessly with almost every .net collection object which is commonly called as LINQ to Objects in Microsoft term. LINQ can also be used to query XML files which is called as LINQ to XML.

Below is a simple LINQ query that fetches employee information from Employees table and populates a GridView control.

From Visual studio 2005, we have a separate tab in Visual Studio toolbar for Webpart called WebParts.

Steps To Create Webapplication with Webparts
1) Drag a WebPart Manager from the Toolbox and name it as wpManager.
2) Create an html table.
3) Drag Webpart zones into the columns, it is wpZone1, wpZone2, wpZone3 and wpTopZone in our application.
4) Drag webcontrols into each webpart zone.Once a web control is dragged into it; it will automatically get converted to Webpart controls.
5) Now, if you run the application, you can see the webparts with Minimise and Close Option.
6) Drag 2 Buttons and Name it as "Design Mode" and "Normal Mode" outside webpart zones.
7) On Design Mode Click write the following code,
wpManager.DisplayMode = WebPartManager.DesignDisplayMode;
8) On Normal Mode Click write the following code,
wpManager.DisplayMode = WebPartManager.BrowseDisplayMode;
9) Now Run the application.Click the Design Mode button and now you can drag the controls from one webpart to another.

IDE stands for Integrated Developement Environment. It is a tool that helps in developing software application easier and faster. For example, Visual Studio is an IDE developed by Microsoft for developing application in Microsoft technologies. Eclipse is an IDE used for Java development.
